Graphic artist and illustrator Paris Spence approached her pony to create an organic and fluid steed. ‘Sriracha’ is armored in a dripping, layered, plastic shell. Paris’ work combines floral and body organ references which challenge the viewer to question traditional sources of beauty.
My pony inspired me to reach outside my comfort zone. Seeing what other artists created with their ponies uplifted my vision. Part of the fiery essence of my pony came to life during the 2021 summer wild fires.
My medium is generally graphic design and painting, but with this piece I wanted to create a smoky, fiery, dripping effect that required the use of 3-D materials like vinyl, which was new to me.
I am happy I made a bold, colorful, contemporary piece that I have never seen on any merry go round. SRIRACHA exceeded my expectations; rising to the challenge was an exciting and arduous process that I will never feel is complete.
