Beachcomber

My work melds timeless craft, modern art, and coastal conservation. I handcraft original fine art Beach Baskets using rope I find washed ashore and collect from local crabbers, breathing new life into foraged flotsam. My baskets speak to life by the sea, coastal culture, and something akin to a renewed sense of purpose.

As a child, I spent hours grooming my own horses. Recalling the textures of coat and hair, I envisioned ‘Beachcomber’ as a Friesian or Gypsy Vanner, with feathered feet and flowing mane and tail – a reference to the movement of waves and currents. ‘Beachcomber,’ though, is her own coastal breed.

With her jute-swirled winter coat, ‘Beachcomber’ has the sweet personality of my very first horse. It’s as though she came to life!
