Wade’s House

The Tank: A History

By January 21, 2026No Comments

In 1930, a covered 35,000-gallon concrete water tank was built behind what eventually became Wade’s House. Talley had a dream of the tank that lay hidden – and what it could ultimately become. When one of the tank walls came down, revealing its previously hidden interior, her eyes lit up as she turned to her husband John and exclaimed, “It’s a party space, and could be a fabulous artist’s studio!” John responded flatly, “No. More. Projects.” But those words have never stopped Talley! (ha-ha!)

The transformation has begun. Now that the Woodmarks have added stairs from the back door descending into the tank’s interior, the concrete walls will soon be prepped for a makeover into a Living Art Gallery and event space. Artists will paint images as though they are hanging in an art gallery, with vintage donated frames permanently mounted to the walls to enhance each artist’s rendering.
